Welcome to AOWA Organization

Social services are an important part of supporting individuals, families, and communities. Their purpose is not limited to material assistance; awareness-raising, guidance, support, and helping people access appropriate services are also important components of social services.

In every community, some individuals and families may face difficult circumstances and require additional support. Children, vulnerable families, people at risk, and those experiencing social or economic challenges may need appropriate assistance and guidance to overcome these difficulties. Social services can play an important role in identifying needs and connecting people with available resources and services.

Supporting people in need and caring for the well-being of others have an important place in Islamic teachings. The Holy Qur’an encourages Muslims to cooperate in acts of goodness:

“And cooperate in righteousness and piety.”
(Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:2)

Islamic values also emphasize helping those in need, caring for orphans, respecting neighbours, and supporting people facing difficult circumstances. These values demonstrate that supporting people in need is not only a social responsibility; it can also be an expression of compassion, responsibility, and kindness.

At the same time, social services should always be provided with respect for the dignity of individuals. People who need support should not be humiliated, discriminated against, or treated inappropriately because of their social or economic circumstances. Listening to people’s needs, maintaining confidentiality, and treating everyone with respect are important principles of responsible social services.

Communities also have an important role to play in supporting individuals and families. Cooperation among families, community leaders, local influencers, civil society organizations, and other relevant actors can help identify needs more effectively and develop appropriate solutions. Sometimes, a correct piece of advice, a referral to an appropriate service, or timely support can make a meaningful difference in the life of an individual or family.

Afghanistan Organization Women Arise (AOWA) considers social services an important area of its work and emphasizes responsible support, respect for individual dignity, awareness-raising, and attention to the real needs of families and communities. Through this approach, social services can contribute to strengthening people’s capacities and building supportive and responsible communities.

Support for people in need becomes more meaningful when it is provided with respect, dignity, and compassion.
