Welcome to AOWA Organization

Kabul — On the occasion of 5 June, World Environment Day, Afghanistan Organization Women Arise (AOWA) joins the global observance of this important day and emphasizes the necessity of environmental protection and sustainable management of natural resources as fundamental requirements for sustainable development.

A healthy environment is the foundation of human life, public health, food security, and sustainable development. Water, soil, forests, rangelands, and clean air are among the most valuable natural assets of any country, and protecting them is a responsibility shared by all of us.

In recent years, Afghanistan has faced serious environmental challenges, including recurring droughts, severe depletion of groundwater resources, deforestation, soil erosion, devastating floods, and the adverse impacts of climate change. These crises have threatened not only the country’s ecosystems but also people’s livelihoods, agricultural production, family well-being, and the prospects of future generations.

In this context, women and children in many parts of the country bear a disproportionate share of the consequences of environmental crises. Water scarcity and the degradation of natural resources have made access to basic necessities of life increasingly difficult for families and have imposed profound economic and social challenges upon them.

Islamic teachings also emphasize the protection of the earth, the avoidance of wastefulness, and the preservation of Allah’s blessings. Almighty Allah has entrusted humankind with the stewardship of the earth and the responsibility to safeguard the environment. Therefore, respecting nature and using its resources responsibly are principles deeply rooted in our Islamic and human values.

Afghanistan Organization Women Arise (AOWA) firmly believes that environmental protection is an inseparable pillar of sustainable development, social well-being, and improved quality of life. We believe that raising public awareness, ensuring sound management of natural resources, protecting forests and water resources, reducing pollution, and, most importantly, promoting the active and meaningful participation of local communities—especially women—are essential and vital steps in addressing climate-related challenges.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, AOWA sincerely calls upon all citizens, responsible institutions, civil society organizations, youth, and community leaders to play an active role in protecting the environment, conserving water and energy, preventing environmental pollution, and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility.

The Earth is our shared heritage and common home; protecting it is our responsibility today and the fundamental right of future generations.
