From Afghanistan Organization Women Arise

March 8, International Women’s Day, is an opportunity to honor the dignity of women, appreciate their tireless efforts, and emphasize the vital role women play in building an aware, just, and progressive society.

Islam does not regard women as marginal members of society; rather, it recognizes them as essential partners in the development of human civilization and the reform of society. The renowned Egyptian Islamic scholar Mohamed Al-Ghazali emphasized that the backwardness of many Muslim societies is partly the result of neglecting the abilities and contributions of women. He believed that just as Muslim women played active roles in the early Islamic era in educational, social, and even political spheres, they should also have meaningful participation in all legitimate fields today.

According to Sheikh Al-Ghazali, depriving women of education and social participation is not a defense of religion but rather an injustice to society. He consistently stressed that the progress of the Muslim community is not possible without the intellectual, moral, and educational contributions of women.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Afghanistan Organization Women Arise (AOWA) emphasizes the following principles:

  • Education is a fundamental right of every woman.
  • Women’s participation in society is essential for sustainable development.
  • Empowering women strengthens the foundations of families and communities.

We believe that a society in which women are educated, empowered, and respected is a strong society with a promising future.

On this occasion, we extend our congratulations to all women in Afghanistan and around the world, wishing them dignity, security, education, and equal opportunities.
