A Message from AOWA
February 27 is observed globally as World NGO Day—a day dedicated to recognizing the role of civil and social organizations in improving people’s lives, strengthening social solidarity, and supporting vulnerable communities. This occasion provides a valuable opportunity to appreciate the efforts of thousands of committed individuals who work within non-governmental organizations to serve society.
Non-governmental organizations play an important role in many countries, particularly in communities facing economic, educational, and social challenges, by complementing essential social services. Through the implementation of educational, health, humanitarian, and awareness-raising programs, these organizations contribute to improving the quality of people’s lives and amplify the voice of genuine community needs.
One of the fundamental characteristics of NGOs is their close connection to the people. These organizations often emerge from within the community itself and, with a direct understanding of local challenges and priorities, offer practical solutions based on social participation. Public trust, transparency, accountability, and a spirit of service are among the core values that define civil engagement.
World NGO Day also highlights the importance of cooperation among civil society, governmental institutions, and development partners. Sustainable progress can only be achieved when all sectors of society work together for public welfare and human development.
Afghanistan Organization Women Arise (AOWA) believes that strengthening the capacity of civil institutions and promoting a culture of social participation can pave the way toward a more aware, just, and empowered society. Supporting social initiatives, encouraging volunteerism, and increasing citizen participation are important steps on the path toward sustainable development.
On this day, AOWA expresses its appreciation to all civil society activists, volunteers, and NGO staff members who work with dedication and responsibility to serve the people, and reaffirms its commitment to continued cooperation in building a better future.
Let us work together for a stronger, more aware, and more humane society.
